Bayville Scream Park

I originally was not going to go to the Scream Park. I went when it first opened up and it was overpriced and not scary at all. It was made by the guys who started the Jekyll and Hyde restaurant and show places in New York City. You would think it would be good, but it wasn't. AT ALL
However, my sister woke me up at 1:30 in the morning the other night. She risked her life by disturbing my slumber to tell me how great one of the houses was.
So I took her advice and went to the scream park last night. It had a bunch of different ticket prices. All in all they have 5 attractions. One house costs $15 and if you want to do 3 it costs $33 and if you want to do all 5 it costs $43. Based on past experience, and not wanting to waste my money I paid the $15 to go into Bloodworth's Mansion.
I think I was startled once and there was one actress that freaked me out because she crawled on the floor. Other than that I wouldn't recommend this place. At one point I was walking around with my hands on my hips. It was a joke.
There were not enough actors, and the actors that were there were not scary at all. We actually walked through rooms without any people in them, just gross props.
I think the abandoned, gutted, dark building we parked in front of was more scary than what we paid for.

East Side Penitentiary

Major Bummer. So I drove all the way to Phili only to find out Terror Behind the Walls was sold out.
But all I can say is how amazing this place looks from the outside. They even have deranged inmates walking up and down Fairmount Ave scaring the people on line.
So a word to the wise - buy your tickets before you get to the place. It costs $30 to get in on Saturday and Sunday but its open and cheaper from Tuesday-Friday.
I will go back though before the season is over. I'll put up more info then!!

Bayville Firehouse

I went to the Bayville Firehouse. I know I said it before, but I've been going every October for the last 10 years. It changes every year and the money they earn goes toward much needed tools and supplies. It costs $13 to get in and they sell snacks and drinks while you wait. They have free shuttles from big parking lots to the firehouse but you can also park in town, though it is usually hard finding a spot. Tonight's weather was pretty bad - rainy and windy. But they did a great job of trying to keep you away from the rain and inside the waiting area for as much time as they can. And even when the line looks long, it's not an awful wait.
This year, I hate to say it, I'm disappointed. But what can I expect? It's almost a family operated thing, therefore there are a ton of little kids in the walk through and in the waiting area.
Another thing that acted against them was the smoke alarm. While walking through there was too much smoke from the smoke machines and it set off the alarms and all the lights came on inside the walk through and in the waiting area. It threw off the spooky feel of the place.
I have to give them credit, you would never know it was a firehouse - they go all out.In past years I know i walked out with no voice from screaming so much. But it is losing it's scare factor with all the kids in the show. I was startled a few times, but unfortunately that is it.
Boo. I'm very upset. This is usually the place I go to when all the other haunts suck.
I REFUSE to lose hope on these guys! I'll go back in 2011!

On my honor, I will try...

...to serve the people of the tri-state area and to the best of my knowledge give them the most information I can about the Haunted Houses out there.

Hi, my name is Rachel. No, I can't sell you cookies and I'm not wearing a brown, green, or blue uniform with badges on it (anymore). I decided to start a blog because I am tired of going through the world wide web trying to find good haunts around Halloween only to be severely disappointed when I trust people's opinions on some of these places.
I want to be terrified. I want the piss in your pants scary. I want to cower in fear. Needless to say I haven't found that yet, but I have been to some decent ones.
I am a jaded New Yorker, with a huge heart. When I'm at a haunted house and it's not scary at all, I feel bad for the people working it and pretend to be scared so i don't hurt their feelings. I'm not kidding, I actually feel bad they are so terrible and I don't want to be mean by walking by giving them the stink-eye.

This year, and yeah I know, it is the 15th of October already, I am going to a bunch of places before Halloween. I'm gonna post all the info about them I can and then you can decide if you want to go. I really look forward to your feedback. And if you know any places I should go, please tell me.
Tonight I am going to the Bayville Firehouse. And even though I have been there every year since I was 11, it's still amazing. I'll post more information about their 2010 Haunted House.
